How to Select the Proper Rotary TableHow to Select the Proper Rotary Table

December 15th, 2010

In his presentation, Mr. Halik will discuss technical specifications to be considered during the selection of rotary tables. Weight load, clearances, clamping torque, accuracies, types and styles of tables, number of axes, and other key considerations will be covered.

The presentation is free of charge and open to all attendees of The Robert E. Morris Company’s New Technology Expo and Open House.

Mr. Halik will be available throughout the two-day event to meet with guests and answer questions.

A description of the presentation’s contents may be found below.

How To Select the Proper Rotary Table

December 15th and December 16th, 2010

10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Drop-in Sessions

Morris Group, Inc. Technology Center

910 Day Hill Road Windsor, CT 06095

Presented by Joe Halik, Engineering Manager, Koma Precision

Rotary table requirements are clearly explained in this informative, technical presentation. Attendees will learn about different types of table models; the applications for which they are best suited, and the different interface options available.

At the end of the presentation, attendees will have a better understanding of how to select the correct table selection for an application.  Attendees also will gain information that will help improve profitability and productivity of existent machining operations.

Topics to be addressed during the presentation include:

1. Selecting the Proper Size Table

How do you select the proper rotary table for your application? Learn about weight restrictions and clearance issues.

2. Table Clamping Torque

What is the importance of clamping force on the work piece? See examples of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

3. Accuracy

How are positioning and repeatability requirements addressed? Learn how to determine if the table meets accuracy requirements and how to transform an angular move into a linear move.

4. Different Types of  Indexers

What different types of rotary tables are available?  Learn the difference between an indexer and full fourth axis plus how table motors can be positioned to cause less interference with the machine enclosure. Discuss the benefits of multi spindle tables. Discuss larger systems for boring mills and horizontal machining centers and the different configurations available for these machines.

5. Different Types of  5th Axis

Is it possible for a 3-axis machining center to provide 5-axis capability? Learn about configurations of five axis tables and how to turn an existing 3-axis machining center into a 5-axis. Explore the types of work made possible.

6.  Table Accessories/Workholding

What work holding and part support options are available? Learn how tables can be fitted with feedback scales to improve accuracy. Learn how tables can be integrated to a horizontal machining center with the use of swivel arms.  Discuss different types of chucks, faceplates and collets.

7. Different Interfaces

Do the indexer and machine controls communicate with each other?  See examples of table positioning on the machine.

Additional Information

Why Should I Attend?

Using the correct rotary table and adding axes allow you to:

•    Increase machine capability
•    Reduce Setups
•    Produce more features per setup
•    Reduce spindle idle time
•    Support unattended machining
•    Increase automated processes

When will the presentation be held?

Wednesday, December 15th and Thursday, December 16th
10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Drop-in Sessions both Days
